VIGGO BRANDT-ERICHSEN ART GALLERY 1: WOODCUTS
Index - Click on image for larger version
Woodcutting is an artistic technique in which an image is engraved into the surface of a block of wood, which is then covered with ink and printed. It is particularly challenging for the artist because the carved image is both reversed left to right and is also a negative (the areas to show as white are what is carved away). Most of these woodcuts were made in the 1930s. They were all cut on endgrain boxwood. |
