ARTISTS’ BOOKS MADE HERE
FEBRUARY 2, 2008 thru APRIL 6, 2008

Debuting in the museum gallery on February 2 is "Artists' Books Made Here," an exhibition of non-conventional book-forms by nearly twenty Central Coast Artists.  These artists make unique and small edition books, creating all aspects of the object: material, format, image, text and elaboration.

A reception for the artists will be held on Friday, February 8, from 5 to 7 p.m. Appetizers and refreshments will be served and the public is invited to meet and celebrate with the artists. Exhibiting artists are:  Linda Benet, Stephanie Dotson, Linda Ekstrom, Linda Foster, Diane Handloser, Mary Heebner, Thomas Larson, Jill Littlewood, Jennifer Marsh, William McVicar, Lisa Moore, Sara Norquay, Terre Ouwehand, Sandra and Harry Reese, Elena Mary Siff, Nina Warner, Ann Wisehart and Pamela Zwehl-Burke.

The artists’ books may be narrative, pictorial, or abstract and sequential in content. Since bookartists seek to marry content to form, physical aspects and bindings vary greatly. In the exhibition are examples of signature-, petal-, side-stitched-, eightfold-, accordion-, portfolio-, and complex bindings. Most of these books have been produced in editions of three or more, and many will be available for purchase.

On Sunday, February 24, there will be an on-site panel discussion with the exhibitors from 2:00 to 3:30 pm.

Guest curator is Pamela Zwehl-Burke who has made, taught and exhibited artists' books since the early 1970s.
