The Photography of Henry Diltz
February 5 thru April 3, 2005

Debuting Saturday February 5, 2005 at the Elverhoj Museum of History and Art in Solvang is “The Photography of Henry Diltz.” The show, which features more than 50 images, creates a visual history of the last four decades of popular music.

A reception for Diltz will be held on Friday, February 18, 2005 from 6-9 p.m. at the Museum, 1624 Elverhoy Way in Solvang. Diltz will return to the museum on Friday evening March 4 for “Stories Behind the Images,” a slide show of his work that he will narrate.

“What fun it is working with the legendary Henry Diltz,” says Esther Jacobsen Bates, Executive Director of the Elverhoj Museum. “Henry’s low-key photographic style combined with his access to popular music personalities and events show many sides of the world of music—the road, the gigs, the humor, the ups and downs.”

With a body of work spanning more than forty years, Diltz’s work has graced hundreds of album covers and been featured in books, magazines, and newspapers. He has produced powerful photographic essays of The Doors, Paul McCartney, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, The Rolling Stones, Eagles, Monterey Pop Festival, Woodstock and scores of other renowned artists. Rather than running with the paparazzi, Diltz amiably fits in with his subjects who are often cronies and colleagues. The close rapport he developed with his musician friends has enabled him to capture the candid shots that convey a rare feeling of intimacy with his subjects.

Diltz continues his distinguished career, generating new and vibrant photographs. He was part of a trio that recently released the critically acclaimed documentary ‘California Rock: Under the Covers” on DVD, CD-ROM and as a PBS national television special. His work is the focal point at the Morrison Hotel galleries in Soho in New York City and the newly opened west coast location in La Jolla.
