“REDEFINING A MATERIAL WORLD”
November 14, 2009 thru January 24, 2010

Debuting November 14 in the Museum Gallery is “Redefining A Material World,” showing a fresh approach to textile and fiber art. The exhibit opens with a reception for the artists from 4 to 6 pm. There is no charge for admission.

Most pieces in the show have a strong quilting influence, some are cloth paintings, and others incorporate recycled materials. Some artists focus on the visual impact while others enjoy the tactile appeal.

One corner of the gallery will be set up as a boutique with handcrafted, fiber-based items. The beautiful, one-of-a-kind goods are great for holiday gift-giving.

Fiber artists today do not always work from a foundation of traditional quilt making methods or styles. Many different techniques may be used to bring the artists vision to life: silk-screening, painting, photography, dyeing, collage, quilting, embroidery, block printing, and burning, to name a few. They do this with a variety of paints, dyes, fibers, hardware, embellishments, wire, ribbon, and found or recycled objects. Their quilts not only express eye-pleasing interactions of color and design, but also include intellectual explorations of design elements, life altering events, and social observations.

Artists whose work is on exhibit are: Diana Acevedo, Linda Cassirer, Barbara Wunder Hynes, Jan Inouye, Susan Conn Italo, Rene Jennings, Lora Martin, Lorna Morck, Mary Norton, Kristin Otte, Andrea Perejda, Cathi Russell, Judy Rys, Jeanne Surber and Susan West.

All the exhibitors are members of Fibervision, a group formed to support, share and promote artistic creation and exploration in fiber art. As with any art group, there are as many different styles as there are artists. This is a special opportunity for collectors as many of the art pieces will be available for purchase.

The exhibit will remain on display through January 24, 2010.
