On exhibit in the Museum Gallery is “Organic Abstractions” featuring wildly colorful new works by Santa Ynez artist Pamela Zwehl-Burke. Featured are large, colorful oilstick drawing/paintings which are part of an ongoing series of compositions based on observed reality.

All of the images on exhibit are composed so that they can be viewed and hung in all four directions.  Zwehl-Burke says: “I know a piece is done when it works from any direction, when the color seems unfamiliar and problematic, when there seems to be more to the picture than a picture of stuff.” The eye of the viewer is kept interested and entertained by the color intensity, the unity and variety of value, and orientation of shape or form.

This is a special opportunity for collectors as many of the works will be available for purchase.   Zwehl-Burke studied art in Germany and France, returning to the States to study at Pitzer, in Claremont, before receiving a Master of Arts at California State University, Northridge, and a Master of Fine Arts at the University of Southern California. She taught in Germany and the United States and spent 25 years teaching college-level printmaking, figure drawing, artists' books and drawing.

She has exhibited her work regionally, nationally, and internationally. Recently retired from Santa Barbara City College, she lives on five acres in Santa Ynez with electronics engineer husband Harold, and many animals (alpacas, horses, cats, fish, chickens and frog).  Studio work, friends, family, and community work richly fill her time.
